“The highest result of education is tolerance”

Madrid, 1981

We opened EASO Student Accommodation on the top floor of a building in Gran Vía street.

🏡Our main requirement: the flat had to be in the city center.

Close to bars, museums, parks, universities… so that the students would not waste time and money on transport ̶ and take full advantage of their time instead.

It was a great success👏🏾

👩🏾‍💻👨🏽‍🎓👩🏼‍🏫👩🏿‍🔬  In the kitchen you would always hear a blend of languages (French, English, Portuguese, German, Italian, Chinese, etc.), but this was never a problem.

All the newly arrived students integrated quickly, and the multicultural family kept growing.

At that time, we offered full board ̶ breakfast, lunch and dinner- while the students took care of their basic domestic issues and focused on their studies..

💡But soon we realised that the purpose of students who moved abroad was not only to take university courses and subjects…

… but also to mature, to learn to be self-sufficient and to feel free 🕊️

We are all born with wings, but it is our job to learn to fly.

🤝🏾 That’s why we decided to shift, modify our whole system and design a new one that would enhance individual freedom and responsibility.

From that moment on, all students who arrive at our flats immediately take control of their lives and their time while being committed to comply with the basic rules of coexistence and respect towards their flatmates. They organise themselves as they prefer. They have lunch and dinner whenever best suits them.🤸🏻‍♀️

Their daily routine does not interfere their flatmates’.

We got it right.

They are still a close and integrated family, but now each member is independent, makes their own decisions and grows at their own pace. 👩🏾‍🎓

Since then, we restructured our Gran Vía flats and opened new ones in Ópera and Sol.
